Pirie Voices is a new initiative that builds on several years of local people and organisations coming together to explore ways to create long-term positive change. The idea emerged from a shared interest in giving the people of Port Pirie a stronger voice in shaping their future, rather than waiting for others to decide. Over the past few years, this work has involved evidence-based research, forums and workshops, and learning from experiences in other Australian communities to ensure local voices lead the way.
The Journey to Pirie Voices

How We Work
Pirie Voices belongs to the community. Partner organisations and a Leadership Group provide support with resources, knowledge, and coordination, but the direction, priorities, and decisions come from local people. Community conversation leaders - trusted local connectors will help facilitate conversations in everyday settings like homes, workplaces, schools, sporting clubs, and community events. This approach ensures that everyone has the opportunity to contribute in a way that feels safe and familiar, especially those who may not engage with traditional consultation methods.
All insights gathered are shared openly, and where possible, ideas will be acted on as they arise. The information collected will also form the basis of a community-led roadmap, identifying key priorities and opportunities that the community wants progressed for long-term positive change.

This is just the beginning — as we learn and grow, we hope more people and organisations will get involved, share ideas, and help shape the future of Port Pirie alongside the community.
Phase 1: Listening and Learning
The first stage focuses on listening. Over 12 months, trained community conversation leaders will engage more than 1,000 local people in meaningful conversations guided by five simple questions. These conversations will capture what people value most, their hopes for the future, and the opportunities they see to strengthen the community.
The insights collected will guide the development of a community-led roadmap, helping identify what is most important to people and which actions should be prioritised. This ensures that Pirie Voices not only reflects the views of the community but also informs practical steps for lasting, positive change.
Together for Long-Term Change
Pirie Voices is just the beginning. Anyone can get involved — by sharing their story, participating in conversations, or supporting the process. Together, we can strengthen connection, build opportunities, and shape a future that reflects what matters most to the people of Port Pirie.
